by Marti M. S. Reynolds
When aging rock star Thørnn loses his sense of self and the desire to perform, he runs away from LA to Colitas, a fictional beach town in San Luis Obispo County, California. In a spur-of-the-moment move to hide from his manager for a few weeks, he swaps vehicles with a befriended surfer-drifter named Reggie, trading Nelli, his Lamborghini, for a bicycle and cart. Quickly discovering he’s not cut out for the rigors of transient life, Thørnn, under the name Stone, befriends a group of seasoned musicians who dream of finally performing in a real concert. Disguised as a vagrant guitarist, he guides them to achieve their goal in a fast-track plan to perform at a music festival in Monterey—a festival that Reggie and his girlfriend, in their adopted lifestyle with Nelli, have promised Thørnn would play as well. Sidestepping detectives, managers, and a mudslide, it’s a race up Big Sur for this cast of characters before the show goes on and Stone’s real identity is revealed.
