Evelyn and the Peacocks is a whimsical story about a little girl who enjoys spending time with her brothers, joining them in dressing up for Halloween, and watching July 4th fireworks. When her brothers go to school, Evelyn is unhappy, as she is not old enough to attend. Soon, however, she encounters two unusual playmates— peacocks—and the fun continues!

This is a beautiful story about family. As I read it, it brought back many memories of my boys playing outside and their gift of imagination. Every child can and should be able to relate to Evelyn and the Peacocks. As a Literacy Specialist, I can see this being used by guidance counselors to prompt a discussion about feelings in the classroom, and by teachers as an introduction to help students in their writing process by using their life experiences and adding a twist to the ending. This book was a joy to read and I would definitely use it as a read aloud in the classroom. —CATHERINE WOOD, Literacy Specialist
