by Paul Landry
Echoes from River City is a memoir of growing up during the tumultuous period of the Great Depression and a world at war. It was a time—not unlike the present—when world and national events overshadowed everything taking place. Told in a historical context, Landry’s tale has a depth that exceeds a personable, family-centered story, though it illustrates how those forces interact with our character’s development. It is also a love story of his parents, of how they braced themselves to succeed against one adversity after another. What emerges is an account, light-hearted at times, where we are provided a candid glimpse of youth asserting itself, among the biological and emotional tensions of coming of age. If Maine is in your blood, there is no washing it away.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
After an adult life spent largely in other places, Paul Landry returned to the ocean, the rivers, and the small towns of Maine for retirement. Paul is a graduate of the University of Maine, having attended Colby College as well, and possesses a work background of corporate business, entrepreneurial ventures, and teaching. He has six children and eleven grandchildren. An avid hiker, gardener, cook, and artist, Paul lives with his long-time partner, Roz (Rosamond Allen), in midcoast Maine on—of course—a river.
