by Mavis J. Longfellow

Mavis Longfellow and her late husband were the original owners of Longfellow’s Greenhouses in the small town of Manchester, Maine. She has lived all of her long life in Maine, the state she loves. She tried to teach her six children, her fourteen grandchildren, and her school students to deal with others in a fair and respectful way. She believes in the Golden Rule as the way to conduct all relationships and has tried to advance such loving action through her writings and throughout her life.

This book, A Long Journey, points up the many changes experienced in society during her long life, from the time of the Great Depression on—through World War II and post-war America, with the social revolutions beginning in the 1960s, and with frequent glimpses into farm life and family ties.
